So he gestured for us to sit down, which we did. We came inside and I noticed only one man serving. So, we went next door to Aldente as it had nice table seating outdoors and inside reflected lovely light. Will not even try to eat there again. In Palm Springs for lunch, we went to Riccio's only to find it closed for some reason. Needless to say we left and found somewhere else to have dinner. The owner or manager was standing right beside the hostess during our conversation and he did not interject at any point. I asked her what was the point of taking reservations if they obviously had no intention of honouring them to which I did not receive a reply. When we pointed out that there was an outside table for two that was not occupied she advised that it was for someone else who had arrived before us. The hostess again said we would have to wait 45 minutes and explained others had shown up before us and also requested outside dining. I mentioned that we had a reservation for 7:15 and that we had requested an outside table. We showed up a minute or two early and were advised we would have to wait for about 45 minutes. We would easily return here for dinner.Īs we would be dining on a Friday night we made a reservation a couple of days in advance using Open Table for an outside table at 7:15pm. The dinners before tip came out to about $ 60 per person. It was nice to find a bar that could make a real Manhattan cocktail (how can something so simple be a lost art in so many Palm Springs establishments). I had the special sautéed Mahi Mahi with potatoes and spinach which was excellent. This is straight forward classic Italian dishes but with three nightly specials added in. It took a while for us to find out that there was a whole second page of entrees we had missed. The host who greeted us was very gracious and checked back on us frequently. There appears to be a small front patio with heaters too. It was a winter night so everybody was dining inside in what is a small intimate space which had a certain charm. We probably had written it off in the past due to its location. We had never eaten here, although this restaurant has been around forever in the heart of the tourist area of downtown Palm Springs. Moral of the story, if you choose to eat here, just be wary of where you are placed, it has potential to be delicious! There is also outdoor seating, unfortunately the weather simply didn't allow it that night. I would consider getting food to go if I were to eat there again, but I don't think I'd be able to stomach sitting anywhere in the general vicinity of the vent. We struggled to finish our delicious desert until the smell was so unbearable that we had to leave. We decided to order some tiramisu & gelato for desert, and the tiramisu was fantastic! Unfortunately, about halfway through our desert, the smell from the bathroom vent returned in full force, causing both of us to completely lose our appetite. By the time our main courses got there, the smell was gone and the food was good, nothing crazy special, but definitely satisfying after a long day of travel. We're not normally ones to complain to restaurant staff, so we dealt with it for a while until the smell dissipated. Yup, you guessed it, it smelled horrendous and was noticed immediately by both of us. We were sat at a table in the back of the mostly empty restaurant, which we quickly noticed was directly under a bathroom vent. It's a pretty small, semi casual Italian restaurant. 5 stars overall- I had just landed in Palm Springs after a series of delayed flights and needed something delicious and filling, my normal Palm Springs spot was full, so my boyfriend and I decided to give this place a go.
